The ImgCat Foundation exists to build, promote, and implement the tools, systems, and algorithms of a responsible social web.
Our primary project is the ImgCat social site. We develop the individual tools & services required to operate the site. But these components are open-source and available to the wider web. We want others to take our work, develop it further, and contribute to the wider ecosystem of a responsible social web.
As we grow larger and can focus on other programs, we will branch out into open-source moderation tools. The psychological impact on moderators has been well-documented. Automation can play a role, but a responsible social web keeps humans in the loop. Therefore it's important to develop tools & standards that limit the impact of damaging content and allows moderators to work with respect, dignity, and care.
We are organized as a nonprofit under Delaware corporate law, and operate as a 501(c)(3) organization under IRS code.
At the moment, we do not have full-time staff. We are a loose federation of volunteers, putting in a few hours here & there, working towards a better social web.
